Mature age job seekers

Job Services Australia

Job Services Australia providers work with all job seekers, including those of mature age, to provide tailored employment assistance.

Eligible job seekers work with their provider to develop an Employment Pathway Plan, to map any training, work experience or other assistance needed to help them find ongoing work.

The Employment Pathway Fund can be used to buy a broad range of goods and services to provide training and equip job seekers for employment, or to help them address personal barriers that might prevent them from getting a job.

New Enterprise Incentive Scheme

The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) assists eligible job seekers to start new, viable small businesses.

NEIS provides income support and other ongoing assistance, as well as training in small business management skills, to job seekers with an idea for a new and commercially viable business.

For more information about NEIS, visit the NEIS website.

Training

Australian Apprenticeships

Australian Apprenticeships are available to anyone of working age with or without a Secondary School Certificate or other qualification.

You can undertake an Australian Apprenticeship in more than 500 occupations across Australia - in traditional trades, as well as a diverse range of emerging careers in most sectors of business and industry.

In recognition that mature age job seekers face particular barriers to employment and training, a mature age worker incentive is available to eligible employers of apprentices aged 45 years and over.

For more information, visit the Australian Apprenticeships website

Productivity Places Program

Mature age job seekers and workers may be eligible to train or retrain in an area of skills shortage.

The Productivity Places Program provides an additional 711,000 training places over five years, to ensure Australians, including those of mature age, develop the skills that industry needs.

To find a qualification or a training organisation delivering these training places, visit the Productivity Places Program website.
