Australian Employment Covenant (AEC) 

The Australian Employment Covenant (AEC) is a private sector initiative aiming to secure 50, 000 sustainable jobs for Indigenous Australians.

The AEC is a three way commitment between employers, the Australian Government and Indigenous people.

What support can employers expect?

The Australian Government will support the recruitment of Indigenous job seekers and pre-employment training specified by AEC employers.

What industries are covered under the AEC?

The AEC can cater for all industry types and will support both large and small workplaces.

Is there a limit to the number of Indigenous employees I can take on?

There is no limit to the number of Indigenous employees you take on under the Covenant.

What are my obligations as an employer?

The AEC will benefit you by diversifying your business and helping to skill your future workforce.

Upon signing up to the Covenant, AEC employers formally guarantee to provide:

  • employment to job ready and training ready Indigenous Australians
  • individual mentor support to Indigenous participants.
