Insurance 

Having volunteer insurance is a critical requirement for any community organisation. There are many insurance packages on the market and there are diverse needs within the different community based organisations.
  • Public Liability - to cover the organisation, its staff and volunteers for the legal liability to third parties for personal injury or damage to personal property.
  • Personal Accident Insurance - to cover volunteers for costs related to an injury incurred while volunteering. Note some policies have age limits or other conditions.
  • Director's Liability (or Officer's) Insurance - to cover the committee members where the organisation is proven to be negligent and is insolvent.
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance - to cover the situation where staff or volunteers have given negligent advice or services.
  • Property Insurance for a variety of specifics such as fire, glass, burglary, equipment, outdoor property, money in transit, computer insurance and special contingency that may include explosion, earthquake, lightning strikes, storm etc. Note some of these may be a part of a set package and other may be extensions that might need to be included.
  • Products Liability - to cover instances where you are liable for damage to persons or property through the use of your product.
  • Motor Vehicles - to cover volunteers own private vehicles and comprehensive for organisation's vehicle. Note volunteers may need to let their insurance company know that they are using their vehicle for their volunteer work.
  • Events Insurance - to cover loss of earnings for a fundraising event.
