Job Explorer
The information on the Job Explorer area of the JobSearch website is derived from the U.S. Department of Labor O*NET Database Version 4.0. The O*NET database identifies, defines, and describes the comprehensive elements of job performance in the changing world of work. It contains hundreds of information units on job requirements, worker attributes, and the content and context of work, capturing what people do as functions of their roles within organisations. By examining and measuring the processes of work, O*NET data allow users to profile similarities and differences across occupations and anticipate skill changes now and into the 21st century.
O*NET is a trademark of the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration.

Occupational classification
The information on this site is underpinned by a formal occupational classification structure. This classification structure is based primarily on the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations Second Edition (ASCO2). Some of the ASCO2 occupation categories have been modified to provide a level of detail not available in the standard ASCO structure. As a result of these modifications, Job Explorer provides information for around 400 occupations, expanded from the 340 occupation 'unit groups' that exist in the standard ASCO2 structure.
Although the standard ASCO2 occupations have been expanded, educational profile data derived from the ABS are only available at the 340 occupations (unit group) level. In these cases data and graphs have been provided at the level of the 340 occupations. These data should be treated as proxy data for occupations affected and may not reflect the characteristics for each of the component occupations.
For the 'browse by occupation' option, occupations are grouped into 20 occupational categories and 100 broad occupations. The titles used for many occupations in ASCO2 have also been changed to make them clearer.
